Whitmill steps out again for Jersey Hospice Care’s 20th Easter Walk

Whitmill is delighted to be sponsoring the Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk for the third year running as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The family friendly morning stroll along Jersey’s Esplanade from West Park to St Aubin and back on Friday 30th March will kick start the Easter Weekend while Islanders help raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care.

Walkers will set off to the sounds of local band ‘Run for Cover’ from the first lay-by at West Park at 9am, and will be offered refreshments at the half way point at St Brelade’s Parish Hall before they head back to town.

The first walk was organised by local lady Doreen Hennessy to raise money for an MRI scanner for Jersey’s General Hospital. Since then it has become an annual fundraiser for Jersey Hospice Care and this year the charity hopes to see lots of familiar faces who have walked the Walk before.

Frederick Deacon, Director at Whitmill said, “We’re proud once again sponsor the Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk and to help raise awareness of the fantastic work that Jersey Hospice does providing end of life care to Islanders in need as well as supporting their families.

“This 20th anniversary walk promises to be another great event and the team at Whitmill are really looking forward to being a part of it once again.”

Emelita Robbins, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “We’re really excited to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of this popular walk and delighted that Whitmill continues to support this event, covering the costs and providing Easter Eggs for all children under 12 who cross the finish line.

“We’d like to encourage as many people as possible to join us who have taken part over the last 20 years, as well as welcome new walkers.

“Over the years the Walk has raised over £217,500 for the charity and such support is vital to ensure we can carry on running all our services free of charge, all year round.”

Donations can be made via Whitmill’s donate page on the Jersey Hospice Care's website.

For anyone wishing to join the Whitmill team and take part in the walk, there is a sign up form on the Hospice website where sponsorship forms can also be downloaded or registration will be available on the morning of the event.
